Outpatient Program

Dimensions in Recovery is a place where boys and girls can reclaim their youth on the way to becoming responsible adults. Adolescent boys and girls can become lost in the disease of addiction and substance abuse and they can be robbed of the most formative years in life.

The Dimensions program is a non-residential outpatient care program created to help boys and girls, age thirteen to eighteen, focus on recovery from chemical use disorders. The Dimensions program offers the unique opportunity for adolescents, at various stages of recovery, to learn from and support each other in a structured, safe, and challenging environment where they grow in self-esteem and emotional maturity.

Each member of our counseling staff is well trained in the principles of recovery from chemical abuse and addiction. An important part of this training is learning to differentiate between the complexities of adolescent development and the behaviors associated with chemical abuse and dependency.

Admission to our program is completely voluntary with referrals coming from a number of sources including other treatment programs, community service providers, schools, and parents. Adolescents typically recommended for outpatient care are those with a supportive living environment.

Families are expected to attend our family programming when their son or daughter is in treatment.

12 Steps to Sobriety.  Four Goals to Graduation.

Participants in Dimensions in Recovery use a 12-Step based recovery model to work at becoming increasingly responsible for their choices and behavior.  The more quickly they achieve program goals, the sooner they are stepped- down in levels of care and earn more freedoms.  The principal goals of our outpatient treatment are designed to help adolescent boys and girls remain in their homes, schools, and communities.
Our program has the following goals:

  • Help boys and girls understand and begin to utilize the basic steps of recovery - honesty, openness and willingness - as a cornerstone for continued personal growth.
  • Assist boys and girls in learning to establish and maintain healthy relationships.
  • Assist boys and girls in making a commitment to self-improvement and learning.
  • Assist boys and girls and their families with resolving issues surrounding substance abuse.

Clients achieve their goals by working through the following levels of care:

Primary: Intensive Outpatient

This 10 hour per week program is likely to be a client’s first substance abuse treatment intervention.  The program  assists clients in identifying and to begin changing the attitudinal, emotional, lifestyle, and behavioral patterns created and maintained because of the client’s substance abuse problem.

Phase I: Outpatient

This 7.5 hour per week program is the recommended step-down from a client’s successful completion of intensive outpatient. The program assist clients in continuing the process of change, focusing on identifying relapse and recidivism issues and to begin demonstrating noticeable improvement in attitude, lifestyle, and behavioral patterns.

Phase II: Reintegration Outpatient

This 6 hour per week program is the recommended step-down from a client’s successful completion of outpatient or for a client who has just successfully completed a residential treatment. Clients at this level of care typically have developed sufficient internal controls or they have demonstrated success in a structured inpatient setting that allows them to maintain abstinence with fewer external controls. Relapse prevention, decision making, problem solving, behavioral control, and successful community participation are the goals of this level of care.

Phase III: Continued Care Outpatient

This 3.5 hour per week program is the recommended step-down from a client’s successful completion of reintegration outpatient or for a client who has just successfully completed a residential treatment. The program offers clients the least restrictive opportunity to demonstrate competency in refusal skills, maintaining abstinence, transitioning to 12 Step meetings, improved family dynamics, and successful community functioning.

Aftercare: 12 Step Support Group

This 1 hour per week program is the recommended step-down from a client’s successful completion of all phases of outpatient treatment. This no cost program offers clients a safe and supportive environment to remain connected with sober peers and to reinforce the positive aspects of a recovery lifestyle.
